Becky Taplin
Hi I'm Becky and I am running the project here in Manchester! I graduated from university in the summer and didn't want to leave such an amazing city any time soon!
I volunteered at various festivals and events during my studies, so hope to carry on creating lots of exciting opportunities for all of you that fancy getting involved! Old or new, I would love to meet you! I have bundles of enthusiasm, so will do my best to make sure you have a good time whenever you pitch in!!

Silk Screens Festival
Posted on 03 July 2008 11:00:55 by Becky Taplin
Young people across Greater Manchester took part in bringing together the Silk Screens Festival in Manchester.
The event took place on 19th July at Exchange Square where the BBC Big Screen is located. The objective of the event was to showcase the culture of the Chinese community as Chinese food and crafts were put on sale while several local Chinese groups were involved in several performances during the day.
Agents4Change worked with Emergency Exit Arts, the organisation who set up the festival, by supplying volunteers to coordinate the event. Young people across Greater Manchester came together to help with the several tasks including event promotions, stage management, decorating and preparing the site, general running of the event by liaising with performers and the public and two volunteers formed a tiger tail in one of the performances!
The event was a success. The performances, films and vibrant decorations attracted crowds - all undeterred by the rain!
Volunteer Bianca Abrahams, who also served as impromptu photographer, commented about the event, "An extremely rewarding experience, even the typical Manchester rain didn't dampen our spirits. I really enjoyed being able to gain backstage access, and interacting with both the public and the performers. The jobs we were given were fun, challenging and creative."
Agents4Change coordinator, Toral Shah, said "It was nice to be able to tie the Agents4Change name into a national BBC Campaign like China Now and be part of an interesting cultural experience. The volunteers enjoyed themselves and helped make the event successful."
