Agent's passion for film inspires communities in Rotherham

An Agent4Change had her own film premiere on the BBC Big Screen in Rotherham.

Georgina Higgins, 18, has been making short films for CSV since October 2007, she has worked on two ‘pop video’ style films of community challenges and a film for Carers’ Rights Day. She is now one of the founding members of a CSV Sheffield pilot project called “Helium Films” that makes short promotional films for community groups in Rotherham.

The Helium films team go out to a community group and help them to draw up a storyboard that contains as many service users, beneficiaries and volunteers as possible to make a really useful film to showcase their activities, to attract more supporters or to celebrate their successes. The team then make up a short film to be shown on a groups’ website, on social networking sites such as youtube, myspace, and on the BBC Big Screen in All Saint’s Square Rotherham.

Right now, as well as looking for community groups who would like a film, we are looking for more volunteers like Georgina to get involved.

Georgina says “I’m on a gap year before university and I wanted to do some voluntary work that combined my love for film with doing something positive. It’s been good to do different styles of films and perfect my skills. It was also cool to see my film on the BBC Big Screen, even if it was chucking it down with rain!”

You don’t have to be a film buff to get involved, as you’ll receive on the job training, and you won’t be out of pocket as CSV will pay your expenses. It’s a great chance to develop your own skills and to make a real difference to local community groups.
