Revellers raise money and awareness at Oxjam gig.
Between 30 September 2007 and 30 September 2007, in Coventry
Volunteer from Agents4change teamed up with local heroes The Ripps, and up and coming unsigned bands The Rrrs and Kalenko to take a stand against poverty this October.
The event known nationally as Oxjam, was organised by local young people working with CSV Community Catalyst Lucy Grafton and raised over £800 for Oxfam. Volunteers designed posters and flyers, publicised the night, liaised with local businesses to source raffle prizes and learnt a great deal about event organisation. The money was raised through a door charge, raffle ticket and badge sales, a ‘buy a drink for Oxfam’ appeal, and some of the bar staff even gave up their evening's wages.
Over 190 people attended the night to enjoy the live music and listen to a talk by Kay Polley, a young volunteer with Oxfam Outreach at Warwick University, who spoke about the different aspects of Oxfam’s work which the money would go towards. Sarah Law, assistant manager at Moo Bar and agents4change volunteer was thrilled that she could get involved in making a difference to something that she cared about, while also putting on such a fun and entertaining evening.
