Reindeer Grub Gives Hope to Children with Cancer
Between 24 November 2007 and 24 November 2007, in Truro
Five young volunteers from the Agents4Change campaign have packed enough reindeer food to send a child with cancer on holiday.
Teaming up with Amy’s Retreat, a charity which provides holidays and respite breaks for children with cancer and their families, the Agents4Change volunteers packed 300 bags of ‘magic reindeer food’ a secret recipe to scatter in your garden, designed to attract Santa’s reindeers on Christmas Eve. The reindeer food will raise £300 which is enough to provide a holiday break for one child with cancer.
The event took place on Friday 24th November at BBC Radio Sheffield’s Open Centre and was organised by Community Catalyst Vicky Powers, 21, who is a full-time volunteer for Agents4Change and aims to encourage more 16 to 25 year olds to get involved in volunteering.
Vicky said: “Making reindeer food with Amy’s Retreat was an excellent chance for Agents4Change volunteers to get involved with a very worthwhile cause and something silly in the process. “As well as helping others, volunteering is an excellent way to gain new skills, gain experience and meet new people. Nationwide, Agents4Change aims to recruit over 12,000 young volunteers to prove that young people care about the areas they live in and are committed to tackling local problems” Vicky adds.
Paul Porter from Amy’s Retreat said: “The reindeer food campaign is an important part of our annual fundraising and we would like more people to get involved with the making and distributing of the reindeer food packets and also to join in with our annual Santa 5K on Sunday 9th December”.
