Drugs and Rock 'n Roll

Between 01 December 2007 and 01 December 2007, in Truro

Drugs and Rock 'n Roll

A concert highlighting the issues around drugs took place in December 2007 for young people around the Greater Manchester region.

Organised by Rebecca Salari, Manchester Agent4Change Music Co was aimed at educating other young people about drugs awareness through music.

The Zion Arts Centre, a creative space for young people in Hulme, hosted the event, which was attended by young people from the ages of 13 upwards.

There were eight acts including MCs, DJs and two dance acts. Each music act performed a track which was written and produced specially for the night focusing on an issue relating to drugs; the tracks were then complied onto a CD and handed out to youths attending the event.

Glynn McCadden, a youth development worker from Eclipse, Manchester Drugs and Alcohol Service for young people, held a stall at the event, providing young people with advice and information on drug related issues. He was impressed with the evening, 'There should be more events like Music Co. in place which provide an alternative means of educating young people about issues such as drugs. It provides an informal environment where young people can feel comfortable with discussing issues which concern them.'
