Swindon Agents4Change help to recover the “lost woodands” of Lydiard Park
Between 01 March 2008 and 01 March 2008, in Truro
Just over 50 volunteers came out on Saturday 8th of March to tend to the trees of Lydiard Park in Swindon. The field that they worked on had almost 11,000 young trees, all of which needed some TLC to ensure their survival.
The plastic guards from each tree needed to be removed, the weeds and grass cleared away, and the guards replaced.
he staggering commitment and passion of all the volunteers involved meant that between 5,000 - 6,000 trees were saved, enough to cover about a half of the field!
This project was set up to help the 'lost woodland' of Lydiard, which was lost due to tree felling in the park to provide timber for the war effort in the 1940's.
The rest of the field will now be completed by an organisation called 'Southern Forestry' who planted the trees a year ago.
