Mentoring scheme (Posted by previous Agent 4 Change Laurence Whitaker)

Between 11 September 2008 and 30 December 2008, in London

Do you want a chance to help those who need it most? Then here's your chance to make a really noticeable difference to someones life!

The ELSEP scheme aims to support young adults with autism or learning disabilities towards seeking active employment and/or to begin to engage in an active social life.  The project runs every Monday and Wednesday from10am-3pm at our headquarters in North London.  As a volunteer mentor you would be supporting our members to improve their literacy, numeracy and IT skills, as well as participating in our person cantered workshops that creatively allow our members to explore issues around employment and social expectations within the workplace.

The scheme will breakdown all the aspects of getting a job, from looking, going to interviews, and the social conventions of behaviour in and around the workplace. Life skills will also be explored expanding on the skills many take for granted like simply organising a night out with friends.  This is a unique project as it offers 1-1 support in education, social skills, and how to become more effective in social interaction - something all our members find difficult due to their autism or learning disability.

Send me an email if you want to get involved and I'll put you in touch with Alex and Nicole who run the project. london@comcats.org.uk
