Sighted Guide
Between 06 March 2009 and 06 March 2009, in Kent
A group of young students in Dover are taking part in Sighted Guide training where they will learn about organisation KAB (Kent Association for the Blind), the more common sight conditions and also how to assist people who have poor or no sight in everyday situations.
On the day, the volunteers learnt about the different eye conditions that people suffer with and got to experience what they feel like with the use of special glasses which simulate them.
They then went onto try various tasks such as pouring a cup of tea, using a telephone and writing their names and addresses whilst wearing the special glasses as well as guiding each other around whilst blind-folded.
It was a valuable experience and some of the volunteers signed up for future volunteering with blind people in their local community.
